Gustav Friedrich Max Schreck in his highly prolific role as Graf, or Count, Orlok from the F.W Murnau 1922 film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror.
Truly eerie, artistic film with pioneering photography for the time. This has been a favourite of mine since I was about 12 years old.
So, as a treat, you get a little extra trivia about Herr Schreck: "Schreck served in World War I from 1915 to 1918. Schreck's contemporaries recalled he was loyal and also a loner with a unusual sense of humor and skill in playing grotesque characters. One reported he lived in "a remote and strange world" and that he spent time walking through dark forests. In many aspects, his personal life remains in silence, perhaps because the movie critics claim that he never received the attention he deserved as an actor until after his death."
The man was very enigmatic and there were many rumours about him that seemed they could all be truths... who knows? Maybe they were....
